Ready-To-Go-Bikes
Observing the process of disaster recovery during
the hurricane Katrina relief effort in Mississippi made apparent the
problem of transportation in the early stages following a major
disaster. While each disaster situation presents a unique set of
obstacles, the need for alternative and basic transportation is likely
to be common.
OUR GOAL: individual and
community sustainability after
disaster.
Bicycles are an easy and relatively reliable form of transportation. Being self-propelled, they do not require costly fuels, and may require only minimal parts replacement to keep operating (tires, tubes, brake pads, etc.)
The need for such a source of transportation in a disaster setting is most acute earlier in the relief process.
